To our many friends, and members of Sanctuary Northern Rivers, we say thankyou for your support.
It may seem odd to say it, but we are in the pleasing position of having a depleted bank balance! As I am sure many of you are aware, Sanctuary Northern Rivers primary modus operandi in distributing funds to support refugee settlement, and we provide no-interest loans, such that after settlement into our community, the new arrivals will pay back their loans in full over a period of time that is within their means.
Currently, we have in the order of $2000 - $3000 coming back into our account each month from loan repayments. However, the demand has been greater. We have been supporting a number of people – many of our settled community and others who seek our support – in gaining humanitarian visas for many who may be dire situations in a camp or urban setting, and others seeking to reunite with their families. It is delightful to report that we are having some success, more-so than in recent years. We strongly wish to be able to continue to assist those who request our support. This will require a greater cash equity position than is currently the case.
To this end, and I am mindful that many of you have generously donated recently to support a family settlement, if you are able to contribute financially, we would be very grateful. All contributions are directly benefiting families and individuals in situations that tinker on the precipice where hope is quickly vanquished. We do anticipate holding a major fundraising function later in the year.
All contributions for this cause are tax deductible and will be issued with a receipt. There are several ways that you can make your donation.
