The Sanctuary Gala Dinner will celebrate everything Safari in a Fundraising Dinner for refugees. Attendees will be immersed and united in a delightful journey of natural wonder, fun, fabulous food and live entertainment.
The dinner is run by local not-for-profit organisation Sanctuary Northern Rivers who assists off-shore refugees to come to Australia under the Governments Humanitarian Settlement program. Through hosting the dinner Sanctuary hopes to not only promote awareness about the plight of refugees within the community but to also provide vital assistance for ongoing settlement.
The Safari Gala dinner will be held on Saturday October the 15th at 6.30pm. The venue is The Grace Centre, Summerland Christian College, Pineapple Road Goonellabah.
“It has been such an honour for me to engage with our new friends who have settled in this area. The acceptance and sense of home that our community has offered to our resettled friends is simply amazing and a true gift of the heart” said Ian Phillips, Vice President of Sanctuary Northern Rivers.
Attendees at the dinner can expect a wonderful night where they will be both entertained and educated.
Icon of Australian Sudanese music Ajak Kwai will be performing throughout the dinner. In 2014 Ajak was awarded the Afican-Australia Community of the year and has just released her 3rd album entitled “Of Cows, Women and War.” Her performances are filled with vibrant sounds and her distinctive voice has mesmerised audiences nationally and internationally. She will also speak on the night of her extraordinary experiences as a refugee, exiled from her home and family.
“I feel incredibly privileged through my involvement with Sanctuary to be able to interact, assist and also learn from such beautiful and strong people” said Ian
There will also be a key note address by Lismore based Mieke Bell who will inspire by speaking about her own experiences and involvement with welcoming new community members.
The night will also involve a silent auction and other great fundraising activities.
All monies raised through the Gala Dinner will facilitate resettlement of refugees and the ongoing support for our new community members.
